My Story
Hi, I’m Justine
I live on a small island in the middle of the South Pacific, called ‘Norfolk Island’ with my husband and two daughters.
My lantern adventure began in 2018 , after 35 years of running my own nail bar I was ready for a change, although I was still passionate about my profession, my heart was longing to move in another direction.
Which is what brought me here today.
Aura Lanterns was first created in 2018…..
My vision was to create a unique hand-crafted product that brings a sense of peace and serenity, I love candles and the natural light and feel they bring to a room or any occasion, but I was finding candles very expensive to replace, as much as I love them , they don’t last!!I
And that's how the journey began...
I decided to begin experimenting with different combinations of wax, then slowly dipping balloons filled with water into the wax to form a luminary that doesn’t melt, which was a success after many failed attempts.
Soon that luminary turned into a cylinder shape wax lantern that now sits on a Norfolk Pine Timber base…..
Once this part was mastered, I was ready to begin playing with designs…
Since I am not by any means a painter I thought I would begin by fusing designs into the wax then adding with alcohol inks and indian inks to bring out the colours and beautiful patterns that give off a beautiful warm glow when lit at night.
After many nights of experimenting with designs and waxes etc, It was time to take a leap of faith and begin to share my creation with the world!!!……
I have finally created an eco-friendly, zero waste product that will last for many years to come, although I have a long way to go, I love special beautiful glow that each night brings after a busy day at work……
Creating these lanterns have been my life saver, allowing myself to let go with each piece and feel more connected to myself and the current world we live in.
